Obituary for Larry Dwain Bishop

Larry Dwain Bishop
Larry Dwain Bishop
December 31, 1953 - July 11, 2018

After a short but courageous battle with cancer, Larry Dwain Bishop passed away on July 11, 2018 in Calgary at the age of 64.

"Zip" leaves behind his daughter Aleiya (Christian) Gillis; grandson Zander; his mother Ella Bishop; siblings Kelvin (Heather) Bishop, Cindy (Alec) Holt, Ron (Kelly) Bishop, Doug (Shawna) Bishop, and Corry Lockhart; nieces Amanda, Spencer, Carly, Sabeana and Jordan; and nephews Devan, Blake, Ben and Lyndon. He will also be missed by a large extended family and circle of friends; especially Ira, Lana, Christine, Cora, Stu and Elvis. Larry was predeceased by his daughter Isis, father William (Bill), brother Trevor, buddy Dean and his beloved border collie Darlin.

Larry was a free spirit that lived life on his own terms and easily made friends with everyone he met. His passions were for playing golf, hockey and snowboarding. He enjoyed cooking with lots of spice (to “kick it up a notch”) and playing his guitar. Nothing gave him greater joy than when his Mom made him his very own flapper pie.

Larry lived in many places but his heart was always in his home town of Alsask, SK. The majority of his life was spent in BC on the Vancouver and Queen Charlotte Islands, in White Rock and Vernon. He loved nature, specifically the Pacific coast and Lake Okanagan. Larry was a self-taught/self-employed carpenter who built, renovated and completed projects of all kinds, including a school in Mexico.

Larry spent the past several years struggling with health issues and often said that he owed his life to Dr. Kelly Burak and his caring team at the Foothills Medical Centre Hepatology Clinic.

A Memorial Service for Larry’s family and close friends will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at the Carstairs Bancroft United Church in Carstairs, Alberta. Please contact alec.cindy.holt@gmail.com for more information.
