Donna Elaine Thurber
Donna Elaine Thurber, resident of Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre, Calgary AB, formerly of Grimshaw AB passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the age of 72 years. Donna was born in Swift Current, SK, on August 5, 1944 to Embert and Ruby (Pretty) Anderson. She was 1 of 6 children. Donna is survived by her 2 children: daughter Deana (Jason) Knight, son Gerald (Darlene) Thurber; grandchildren: Bryson Thurber, Bryanna Thurber, Dean Knight and Spencer Knight; great-grandchild: Cayden Thurber. She was also survived by her siblings: Raymond Anderson (Georgie McKechnie), Doug Anderson, Dianne Anderson (Wes Coates), Kathy and Dale Cates. Extended family includes David Thurber, Lorraine Songer, Evelyn (Glen) Fiske and Jean Thurber, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Donna was predeceased by her parents Embert and Ruby; brother Ellwood Emil Anderson; mother and father in-law Charles and Jean Thurber; brother in-law Don Thurber; sister in-law Shirley Wood and brother in-law Neil Songer. Donna had very good friends who will miss her tremendously. Staff at the Fanning Centre (where she lived for 27 years), Diane Jorgenson, Norma & Rheal, Dorothy & Red, Rachelle, Cherie and Karla and so many more.

Donna battled MS for 44 years, but that did not stop her. With a smile on her face, even in the toughest of times she lived her life to the fullest every day and on her own terms - one of her friends (Sherry) summed it up perfectly “Oh Donna, how the world will miss your passion and your fight. Thank you for all you've done to help further the mission to end MS. May you continue to shine on in the hearts of your family. You've left a profound legacy”Over the past 27 years in Calgary, Donna raised $63,371 for MS research.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church (1432 - 19 Street NE, Calgary) on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers or cards, donations in Donna’s memory may be made to the MS Society of Calgary (110 Quarry Park Boulevard SE, Suite 150, Calgary, Alberta T2C 3G3) or by donating online to Help Donna End MS. Help Donna End MS - the MS Walk is on June 11th this year - Donna was registered to walk in it with her family - Donna will be with us in spirit as her family continues on the tradition.
