Doreen Gillan passed away suddenly in Calgary on April 22, 2017 at the age of 89 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Teri (Bill) Gillan-Church, Anita (Joe) Gillan, and Jan (Alison) Gillan; her brother Les; sisters Kathleen and Pauline; grandchildren Christopher (Chelsea), Kyle (Xiaoyan), Stephanie, Laura, and Nichole; and her great-grandchild Saphira. Doreen was predeceased by her husband Nicholas, daughter Jacqueline, sisters Sheila and Valerie, and her brother Terry.

Doreen was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend to many. She grew up in England during WWII and later met her husband Nicholas there. Doreen also lived in Argentina and Ghana before settling in Canada, where she raised her family and proudly worked for the Government of Alberta. Doreen also spent many happy times with family in Nakusp, BC, and also loved her crafts, reading and music. She will be dearly missed. Doreen’s family would like to give special thanks to the staff at the Rockyview Hospital for their compassionate care.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Reverend John Nemanic on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 800 85 Street SW, Calgary, AB T3H 4C7. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada www.heartandstroke.com, Diabetes Canada www.diabetes.ca, or the Canadian Cancer Society www.cancer.ca.
