Elgin Allan MacKinnon
July 2, 1959 - April 11, 2019
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Elgin Allan MacKinnon on April 11, 2019.
Born the youngest son of Mary Jessie and the late Murdoch Neil MacKinnon of Kenloch, Inverness, NS; Elgin was best-known and well-loved for his mischievousness and practical jokes that he perfected on family and friends. There was always plenty of opportunity with the many relatives returning home to the farm each summer from Boston, no one was exempt regardless of age…and we wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
In 1978 Elgin accompanied his brothers in Calgary, Alberta where for many years he worked in construction. He continued to work in the construction industry and established his own company “Custom Stucco”; making Calgary his home where he lived with his family; daughter Chrystal Ashley, son Elgin Daniel and step-son Travis Mitchell Lucier.
Elgin’s great love of the outdoors and travel brought him on many road trips, adventures and destinations; ski-dooing/four-wheeling in the nearby Rocky Mountains was a favorite frequent getaway. In his spare time Elgin was an avid at-home-chef and paint-by-number artist, he also enjoyed his coffee shop runs to The Second Cup on 10th Street, NW and spending time with his beloved dog Lucy.
Elgin is predeceased by his father Murdoch Neil and brother John Wendell in infancy. He is survived by his family Chrystal, Elgin Jr. and Travis, Calgary, mother Mary Jessie, brothers Wayne, Kenloch and Wendell (Danita), Halifax and sister Wanda, Kenloch. Elgin is lovingly remembered by his Aunts and Uncle, many nieces and nephews as well as numerous family members, friends and neighbors throughout Cape Breton and across Canada and the United States.
