Isobel Lamport (nee Muir)
November 06, 1930 – April 16th , 2019

It is with sadness that we announce that Isobel Stewart Lamport (Muir) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on April 16, 2019 at the Glenmore Age Care/ Beverley Centre in Calgary, Alberta at 88 years of age.

Isobel leaves behind sister-in-laws: Ann and Jay She is predeceased by her husband Robert Frank Lamport in 1977, her parents: James and Agnes (nee Philip) Muir, her siblings: Margaret (Jim Orr), Ian and Colin, and nephew Jonathan whose wife Nicky was one of those at Isobel’s bedside when she passed.

Isobel will be forever loved and remembered by her son Gregory, daughter Liane (David), grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Isobel was a strong courageous woman with an adventurous spirit and dry sense of humour. She was always ready to laugh at herself and with others. She maintained that sense of humour, courage, and grace through good and bad times.

Isobel was born in Leslie, Fife, Scotland. She studied and worked in nursing and midwifery in Edinburgh for a few years after obtaining her certifications before deciding to come to Canada in 1956 where she worked as a nurse at the general Hospital in Halifax.

Isobel decided to move further west and chose Calgary as a destination by closing her eyes and putting a pin in the map. She arrived by train in 1956 and was astounded, upon leaving the station, by the number of people in native and western attire. She just thought, ‘oh my goodness, what have I got myself into. This truly is the wild wild west!’ Later she realized that she had arrived during the Stampede.

Isobel met and married Robert in 1957. She worked as a nurse at both the General and the Holy Cross Hospitals in Calgary. Bob was, on the road quite a bit. While raising two children, Isobel obtained an Early Childhood Education certificate through Mount Royal College and worked as a Family Day Home Supervisor at the Bowness Montgomery Day Care Association. Later she worked at the Canadiana House art gallery and also completed a Fashion Merchandising program through Mount Royal College.

She dabbled in painting and enjoyed such hobbies as knitting and reading. She served for a number of years on her condo board and as a volunteer at ARBI. She enjoyed tea and lunches with friends and time spent with family. She also always said that she was content with the company and never bored when she was on her own.

She will be missed. We will be honouring her with a “Celebration of Life Tea” to be held at Altadore Baptist Church (4304 16 St SW) on Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 1:00 pm -4:00 pm. Please join us in sharing memories .
