Obituary for Shirley Mason
Christina "Shirley" Mason
December 19th, 1943 - April 11th, 2019
Christina “Shirley” Mason (neé Lein) passed away peacefully in Calgary on April 11, 2019.
Shirley was born December 19, 1943 in Peace River, Alberta. She spent her early years in Northern Alberta.
She came to Calgary as a teenager and soon landed a job at the Bank of Montreal. She met her husband Mike there a few years later. They married in 1965 in Calgary and had three children.
Shirley resumed her banking career once the kids were all in school. She and Mike retired from the bank in the mid 90's and moved to Vernon, BC, having spent many good times there over the summers.
Shirley returned to Calgary in 2004 after Mike passed away and launched her second career as "Grandma Shirley". In addition to spending a great deal of her time with her grandchildren (and her "granddogs") she played bridge, served on her condo board and kept the local malls in business.
Shirley is survived by her son, Craig; daughter, Jodi (Troy); grandchildren, Erin and Adam; brother, Carroll; sister-in-law, Peggy Sadler (Gary) and her nieces, nephews and friends.
She is predeceased by her husband, Mike; son, Michael; sister, Bonnie Rumley; sister-in-law, Ruth Lein and her parents.
Shirley has left her family and friends with wonderful memories and lives on in the hearts and minds of all. Shirley's family is grateful to the excellent and compassionate caregivers at the Southwood Hospice.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 16 at 2 pm at Glamorgan Church of God (4715 45 St SW, Calgary, AB T3E 3W5).
