February 13, 1951 – March 12, 2019

It is with profound sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Doug Fraser of Calgary, Alberta at 68 years of age. He left us gently and peacefully surrounded by his family on March 12, 2019 at the Rockyview General Hospital.

Beloved to many, he leaves to mourn his wife Lynne; daughter Dawn; son Brad (Corinne); step sons Eric (Kelly) and Rand Jensen; sister, Wendy (Angelo) Belcastro; brother Brian (Lorraine) Fraser; brother Keith (Jeanne) Fraser, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be lovingly remembered by a number of special and dear friends. He is predeceased by his parents Ken and Norrie Fraser.

As a journalist, Doug’s career took him from radio host to news anchor, host of a morning show, to Communication Director of the Calgary Regional Health Authority and to most recently and proudly the Calgary Stampede. Doug was also passionately involved with Crime Stoppers for many years where he held a position of President and a Board Member. He loved music, playing the guitar, cooking, golf and his Edmonton Eskimo’s and Oilers.

At this time the family has chosen to celebrate Doug’s life privately however we are so very grateful for all of your messages, prayers, well wishes and we encourage you all to raise a glass in honour of Doug.

We’d like to send out a special heartfelt thank you to the ICU medical team at Rockyview Hospital for their extraordinary care of Doug and their compassion shown to him and our family.

In lieu of flowers, please remember Doug by making a donation to Heart & Stroke Foundation or Canadian Diabetes Association.

Such a sad time learning that Doug has left us. Doug - you were a great mentor and friend, and such lively soul. I worked with Doug in Calgary in Communications at the Calgary Health Region many moons ago. Doug taught me a lot and was always there to coach, inspire, and help out. It is hard to believe that you have left us. Rest in peace my friend. Love to your family ... especially Lynn. Sharon Nettleton

To the Fraser Family, I am so sorry to hear of Doug's passing. I have many wonderful memories from my youth. I remember being excited at Christmas time when Aunt Norrie and Uncle Ken and my four cousins, Brian, Doug, Keith and Wendy would arrive in Calgary from Edmonton in their stationwagon to spend the holidays at Nana & Dad Rhode's house. We would join them for a huge turkey dinner where the 6 grandchildren would eat off the card table in the little room off the dining room. My mom, Auntie Margie, played the piano as we all sang songs. Then there were the summer days spent at Gull Lake. All the kids would meet after dinner for a rousing game of "kick the Can". I remember Doug being so thrilled when he rode my horse up and down the back lane. Time passes so quickly and we all went our separate ways. When Doug and Lynn settled in Calgary we didn't see a lot of each other but when we did get together it was a wonderful time and usually music was involved. Doug will live on in my memories. Our thoughts are with Lynne, Brian, Keith and Wendy as well as the rest of Doug's family. May his gentle soul rest in peace. Love, Linda & Leon

Hi Lynn, I'm so sorry to hear of Doug passing. We had a lot of laughs over the years and I'll miss his big laugh. He helped me out a lot when I was learning my craft and we always kept it light even with his high pressure communication positions. I hope you all find some peace. Bob Sumner
