Obituary for Terry Allan Greening

GREENING, Terry

The flowers have finished blooming and are now wilted, the bunnies are asleep for the night, and the Toronto Maple Leafs have yet to win a Stanley Cup. These are some of the passions that Terry had and enjoyed throughout his life.

Terry fought long and hard with gastric cancer but earned his angel wings on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the age of 55 years. Terry passed peacefully with his loving wife, Rosemarie and two daughters, Amanda and Alana by his side.

Terry was very passionate about gardening, his flowers and the outdoors.

Terrance Allan Greening was born May 12, 1963 in St. John's, Newfoundland.
Terry was survived by his loving wife, Rosemarie and his daughters Amanda and Alana. Terry was predeceased by mother Helen Elizabeth Greening and father Eric Lloyd Greening, and leaves behind sister Cindy Greening and brother David Greening.

In 1980 Terry got his High School Diploma from Mount Pearl Central High School in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. Then in 1989, he received his Bachelor of Physical Education and Bachelor of Education (Biology Minor) from the Memorial University of Newfoundland.

From Sept. 1990 – June 2002 Terry was a substitute teacher for the Delta and Surrey School Districts in British Columbia teaching Biology, Physical Education, General Science with Minor Areas: Chemistry, Junior Math.

After that, in 2002, we moved to Alberta where Terry started substituting for the Rockyview and Foothills School Divisions. He travelled to many schools all over teaching a variety of students and various subjects. Terry would often be late getting home as he would stay after helping a child that would request a little extra help with something that they were having trouble with.

Terry also graciously gave back to the community by volunteering where and when he could. Some of the organizations he volunteered for throughout his life were: Coaching for the Mount Pearl Minor Hockey Association and the Mount Pearl Minor Ball Hockey. He was an Instructor for the FIA Hockey School, a Sports Leader for the Boys & Girls Club. He was a Site Supervisor for the Memorial University Varsity Support Services. He was a Coach Coordinator for the Abercorn sports programs, a Project Leader for the Calgary 4-H Southpaws and our club announcer, score keeper and in general the one who ran all our shows for the Canadian Rabbit Hopping Club for the past 12 years.

Terry was a sports fanatic. He was a lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He had his favorite other teams as well, the Toronto Raptors, the Toronto Argos and many other teams. But his one dream that I wish he had been able to see, were the Leafs winning the Stanley Cup.

Terry also shared his families love of animals. He was avid bird watcher and nature lover. We spent many days traveling to places such as Kananaskis or Fish Creek Park in hopes of catching a glimpse of various birds, deer or moose.

Many people may also be surprised to know that he had a passion for flowers. He enjoyed gardening, and in the Fall, entering his prized flowers into local fairs and shows. Often winning prize money or his name on a trophy. He took great pride in his pansies especially, as well as petunias and nasturtiums. Earning him the name, the Pansy King.

Above all, Terry was a family man. Wherever we were, whatever activities the family was involved in, Terry took on with great enthusiasm. It didn't matter what it was. We always went and did everything together, as a family. We will miss him very much, he will be forever in our hearts. He may be gone but will never be forgotten.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Terry's honor on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the Braeside Community Hall, 11024 Braeside Drive SW, Calgary, AB from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Terry's memory to Against All Odds Rabbit Rescue. Donations can be made through e-transfer at crhc@shaw.ca or directly to the Calgary Avian and Exotic Pet Clinic at 403240-3577 on the AAORR account.
