Obituary for Esther Reichert

REICHERT, Esther
1923 – 2019

ESTHER REICHERT, nee Straub, passed away peacefully on February 19th, 2019 at the age of 95. Esther leaves to cherish her memory her daughter and son-in-law, Gwen & Henry Schorr; her grandsons, Matthew (Arian), Jonathan (Kristin), Joshua (Amanda), Michael (Becky) and many great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

She was predeceased by her husband, George, who passed away on February 11, 1972; her parents, William & Caroline Straub; her brothers, Herbert, Leonard, Harold and Emil Straub and her sister, Emma Weber.

Esther grew up on the family farm near Hilda, attending school until grade 8 at which time she no longer attended school in order to help her parents on the family farm. She married George Reichert, September 30, 1944. The couple farmed in the Hilda area after which George worked as a mechanic at Beny Motors in Medicine Hat. When George was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, they returned to Hilda serving together as Postmaster and telephone switchboard operators for AGT for seven years. As George's health declined, they moved to Medicine Hat again in 1967, where Esther continued to work for AGT/Telus as head cashier until 1983.

After her retirement, she devoted even more of her time to serving her church (choir, women's ministry, children's ministry, deacon board), golfing & bowling with friends and enjoying her family in Calgary for extended periods of time. Because of declining health, she moved to Calgary in 2013 to live with her family full-time. In 2016, she became a resident at Bow View Manor.

Esther is now at home with her Lord whom she loved and served. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Bow View Manor for the excellent and compassionate care they provided Esther during her time there.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Centre Street Church (3900 2nd St NE) from 12:00 pm to 12:50 pm. The Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 pm with Dr. Henry Schorr officiating. A private Family Graveside Service will take place.
