Obituary for Amanda Wynne Ellis

AMANDA WYNNE ELLIS
July 27, 1978 – February 4, 2019

It is with unbelievable sadness that we have to announce Amanda’s tragic and unexpected passing on Monday, February 4, 2019 at the Foothills Hospital. She was just 40 years old.

Amanda was born and raised in Calgary. After graduating from Western Canada High School, she headed to university in the Maritimes. She obtained both a B.Sc. (Hons.) and a B.A. from Mount Allison University and an LL.B. from Dalhousie University. She then returned home to Calgary where she articled at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP and was called to the Alberta Bar in September 2006. In June 2007 she accepted a position at Tingle Merrett and became a Partner at the firm in 2015. She left Tingle Merrett in 2017 to pursue other ventures.

Amanda was dearly loved by all her family and we will miss her terribly. She was a very kind person with a wonderful smile that would light up a room. She leaves behind her beloved four-legged friend (Harry), her mother (Jane), her father (Owie) and her aunt (Ann Clipstone) who was like a second mother to her. She is also survived by her grandmother Joan Clipstone, her aunt Sydna Ellis, her cousin Debbie Ellis, numerous relatives in Wales and her “sister by choice” Robin Glennie.

Amanda was blessed to have many wonderful friends in Canada and around the world. We used to tease her that she had more friends than anybody had a right to have! She loved you all.

Our very special thanks go out to the wonderful, caring nurses and doctors in the ICU at the Foothills Hospital who tried so desperately to save her life and ensured she passed peacefully at the end.

To respect Amanda wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no funeral or memorial service. We plan on holding a Celebration of Life in the late Spring or early Summer.

Should you wish to make a donation in Amanda’s memory, please consider the Calgary Humane Society or a charity of your own choosing. Alternatively, please just do something especially nice for someone else in her memory.

“LOVE YOU FOREVER, LIKE YOU FOR ALWAYS”
