Obituary for Henry "Hank" Stogrin

Henry (Hank) Stogrin
September 10, 1931 – November 28, 2018

Henry passed away on November 28th with his family by his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Irma (Bertha); daughter Sheri Monnery; sons Shayne (Tamara) and Robin (Angela); as well as three grandchildren Justin and Kristin Monnery (Sheri) and Lea (Robin).

Henry was born in Smoky Lake, Alberta and was the only child of Kaye and Mike Stogrin. Henry’s family eventually moved south to the Barnwell area of Alberta, where he spent most of his formative years. After trying to find work in a few different industries, he moved to Calgary and started working for Canada Post where he retired as a postal manager after working there for over thirty years.

With his younger family, he enjoyed fishing and camping. Henry would also try to bring along his friends on his adventures. He was competitive, so he loved playing softball, horseshoes, curling, as well as cards and dice games. Hank was a real character and he would shine when others were around, since this is where he could laugh, joke, be boisterous and tell his (tall) tales. Hank dove into golfing and curling passionately after retiring, which he kept doing up until his last couple of years, (especially curling). He became a lifetime member of the Carstairs Community Golf Club, on his 80th birthday, after being a member for many years and hundreds of rounds with Irma, friends and family (plus countless range and practice balls). Irma and Hank spent part of the cold Calgary winters in hotter climates with friends, golfing and enjoying the nightlife, spending many of their anniversaries with a cold drink, hot weather and giant smiles on their faces.

Thanks to the caregivers and staff at the Bethany Care Centre for his care, and a special call out to Dr. Lauf, as well as the hardworking staff at the Rockyview Hospital.

Henry’s wishes were that his remains be cremated. Eternal rest and peace grant to him.

If you would like to honour Henry, please make a donation in his name to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (vascular dementia) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

The family would like to also thank Choice Memorial Cremation and Funeral Services for making the families time of grief a smooth process.
