Obituary for Edward James "Ed" Redekopp

Redekopp, Edward “Ed” James
1950 – 2019

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward James Redekopp at the age of 69.

Edward James Redekopp was born January 28, 1950 in Herbert Saskatchewan and passed away on February 7, 2019 at his residence in Calgary, Alberta. Ed was the youngest child of five siblings

He sadly leaves to mourn his sister, Irene Redekopp of Edmonton; sister-in-law, Mary of Regina; nephew, Darren (Maja) and his children, Alex & Nash of Saskatoon; three nieces, Juanita (Darcy) from Regina, Renee (Vasily) of Edmonton and Danielle & Mo of Regina, Uncle Ben & Aunt (Alice) of Herbert (Saskatchewan) and numerous cousins. Ed was pre-deceased by his parents, John & Mary Redekopp; his three brothers, Harold, Alvin, Eldon and his sister-in-law, Lilian.

At the untimely passing of Ed, his best friend and caregiver was Diane Varga. Together they enjoyed many trips to the mountains, new surroundings & places he once worked at.

Ed grew up on a farm near Swift Current Saskatchewan and had many cherished years farming with his family. Ed had numerous jobs in Swift Current, Calgary & Medicine Hat before finally moving to Calgary. He loved Calgary with the closeness to the mountains.

Ed had a massive heart attack many years ago while living in Medicine Hat and a five-way by-pass surgery was performed in Calgary. It was determined that Ed had diabetes after his surgery which caused endless issues & numerous hospital visits. Neuropathy from diabetes in Ed’s fingers was so severe that they were almost useless, causing a great deal of pain and frustration!

Ed will be cremated. There will be no funeral or memorial service. We are planning a “Celebration of Life”, at a later date.
