Condolence From: Ainsley Rice
Condolence: Dear Jane, Ann and Owie,

I’ve been thinking about Ellis a lot over these past weeks, and wanted to write this small note to share a few thoughts with you.

I was lucky enough to meet Ellis when we articled together at Blakes. I remember thinking, upon meeting her for the first time, that Ellis was an absolute force – she radiated confidence and intelligence, but at the very same time she was friendly, welcoming and really, just the most fun. She was the unspoken leader of what became our crew, and she led us into many hilarious and memorable adventures (most of which I’m realizing shouldn’t be shared in public!). We always seemed to be surrounded by a large group of strong women and I will forever remember the nights of all of us together, dancing (often on top of something – tables, chairs, snowbanks) and laughing into the early morning hours (and sometimes the late morning hours). I can hear her laugh (and giggle) clearly in my mind and I can see her doing her signature Ellis move – giving a little shrug and then looking over her shoulder with a smile.

She will be so missed by the many people who loved her.

Condolence From: Andrea Rice
Condolence: Dear Jane, Ann and Owie-

I’m Amanda’s friend Andrea. My sister is Ainsley, who articled with Amanda at Blakes, which is when I was fortunate to have met Amanda. I wanted to send a small message to let you know grateful I was for Amanda’s friendship in the time I knew her. Amanda was the sort of friend who put her people first. I have a sign in my home that states, “people matter first” and Amanda is one of my friends who I believed, lived this every day. No distance was too great for her to travel to spend time with and be with her people. I will cherish memories of our trip to Mexico with Clare Haney and Ainsley, the trip to Chicago which was a long way to travel to cheer me on in a marathon, a weekend reunion in Vancouver and several weekends at our cottage at lake of the woods where Amanda was always up for an adventure- often a late night one on the lake. She taught me how to Suduko (I’m still terrible and definitely do not have her quick mind), spoke for an entire day in cockney rhyming slang with my sister (I was totally lost but it was entertaining none the less) and I always loved our life chats over Earl Grey tea in the sun. Although I had moved away from Calgary 6 years ago, some of my fondest memories of my time in Calgary include Amanda. I will miss her dearly and I am so sorry for your loss. Sending love- Andrea Rice

Condolence From: Kenny M
Condolence: I met "Elle" back in my Eastlink days when she roomed with Kevin S. Although neither of us would have considered each other more than a mutual acquaintance, I can tell you three things for certain:

1) Her smile was infectious and she was always down for a good laugh
2) She was kind to everyone she met, myself included
3) Most importantly, she provided loyal friendships to those she was closest with and for that I am most saddened as it impacts someone I truly care about.

For those of you that were closest to her, I am truly sorry for you loss. You have my deepest sympathy.
