Obituary for Rena Parker

PARKER, Rena
October 20, 1926 - February 13, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Rena Parker.

Rena was born in Standard, Alberta, to Danish immigrant parents; Gotfred and Constance Nielsen. She and her seven siblings were raised on a farm near Hussar, Alberta. Rena and Bill were married in 1946 and soon moved to Calgary where they raised their family.

Mom was a proud homemaker and an excellent baker, making her delicious treats for family dinners and birthday cakes for celebrations. Bill and Rena enjoyed years of camping, fishing and traveling in their motorhome, often spending time in the mountains nearby.

Rena was predeceased by her husband, William (Bill) Parker in 1992. In her later years, Mom enjoyed her crafts, knitting and playing cards with her friends. Her favourite times were with her family.

Her legacy lives on in her three children; David (Rose), Judy (Bob) and Rick (Cindy). She is also survived by her seven granddaughters; Shannon, Sheena, Christy-Anne, Jackie, Lisa, Patti, Tara and eight great grandchildren. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews and numerous extended family members. To honour our Mother’s wishes, there will not be any funeral services.

Flowers are gratefully declined, for those who wish, a memorial contribution can be made to the Veteran’s Food Bank (403-367-8387). The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at AgeCare Skypointe, for the care and compassion they provided to our Mother and family, during our Mother’s residence there over the past several months.
