Obituary for Paulene Elizabeth Walker

On December 20, 2018, a bright light went out on this earth and an angel got her wings.

Paulene Elizabeth Walker (nee Kennay) was born in Gleichen, Alberta on April 13, 1930 and
passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta on December 20, 2018.

Mom grew up in Calgary and took all her schooling there. She met our Dad, Douglas Walker,
in Calgary and in 1952 they were married and they moved to Lomond, Alberta. The City girl turned Country.

Upon moving to Lomond, they decided to build and operate a restaurant. It was much more than just that though, it was the local gathering place and they were open from about 6 am to closing time – no set time; simply at the end of the night when the last customer left. Mom baked 18 pies every morning in addition to cooking meals.

Their next venture was to farm. Mom and Dad farmed for 40 years in the Lomond area. Theirs was a grain and cattle operation and they worked hard throughout many tough times to make their life a success. In addition to being a wonderful mom to her 3 daughters, she became a fantastic seamstress, cook, farm hand and nursemaid to baby pigs, calves, chickens, turkeys and any other being that needed help.

Mom was a pillar in her community. She would lend a hand wherever it was needed and was a
lifetime member of the Goodwill Community Club in Lomond.

Mom and Dad were fortunate to spend 21 winters in Arizona and travelled extensively throughout the world. They made friends wherever they went. In the mid 1990's, they retired to Redwood Meadows, AB. In 2003, they relocated to Cochrane, AB and Mom just recently moved to Calgary this past September.

Mom always had a smile and a kind word. She was most definitely a “glass half full” kind of person. She had a wonderful sense of humour and could always find a silver lining no matter how difficult the situation.

Mom was predeceased by our Dad, Douglas, brothers-in-law, Ron Walker and Bob Haase, son-in-law, Ted Dietrich, brother, Bill Kennay, sisters Dorothy Haase and Elsie Haughian. She leaves to mourn daughters Paula, Debbie (Bob), Brenda (Richard), 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Mom/Gramma, we love you to the moon and back and will miss you so much.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to Stars Air Ambulance. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. To view and share photos, condolences and stories of Paulene, visit
