Adele Joyce Kassian
September 21, 1933- Monday December 10, 2018

With deep sadness, we share the unexpected passing of Adele Joyce Kassian at the young age of 85. She is survived by her children, Cindy ( Kevin) and Wayne of (New Zealand). She will be missed by all, her grandchildren, Jason, Ryan, and Mel and Sam (New Zealand).

Adele was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Mary and Henry Malanik. Adele was the youngest of three children. With her golden heart, she out lived Irene (Toronto) of 71 years. Adele is survived by and missed by nephews, Dan (Barb) and his children, Cameron, Hilary (Erik), baby Isla; and Jim (Wendy) and his children, Sean and Michael; as well as her brother, Michael of 77 years of Hollywood, Florida and his children, Jim, Donna, Kelly (Chicago).

Adele lived in Toronto and Calgary during different parts of her life. She came to Calgary in 1980 and went back to Winnipeg a couple of times. She came out to Calgary and lived with Cindy and family in 1995 to help with the grandchildren. She adored watching the boys play sports and watch Ryan in The Young Canadians. She was part of the Grandparents program at their Elementary School where she would read with children who required extra help. She had a passion for sewing where she was a real seamstress, knitting, needle point, petty point and paper toll which gave her Peace of Mind. She was active in curling and bowling. Her biggest passion was BINGO with her long-time friend, Eleanor Duke (Wpg) and CRIB. In crib, she never missed a point. She could count her cards and yours right up until the end. She worked at Eaton’s mail order and retired from Burn’s meats.

Adele traveled a bit. She loved to spend time with her sister, Irene and family. In the early days, they would either come to Winnipeg or our family would go to Toronto. She also loved to spend time down in Los Angeles with her cousin, Angie (predeceased) and highschool friend, Arlene (Berks) Baker. She made many trips overseas to Auckland to spend time with son, Wayne and his family. Just over a year ago, her son Wayne came to Calgary for his 60th birthday. She was so Blessed to see her nephews (TO) and second cousin Cookie (Wpg) during that time. Her granddaughter Mel (NZ) came over twice in the last 1 1/2 years.

Adele had a heart of gold and will deeply be missed by all. Many thanks to the people of Silvera (Spruce Lodge) who cared for her. Also, The Riverside Sports Therapy, Marketmall PT Health and especially South Campus Hospital Unit 78. Her ashes will be laid to rest at All Saints Cemetery in Winnipeg next summer with her Mother and Grandmother. Winnipeg is “Home is where the Heart rests”.

A Celebration of Adele’s Life will be held at Centre Street Church, 3900 - 2nd Street NE, Calgary, AB in the Marantha Room Main floor on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 1:00 pm. To share photos and memories or to leave condolences, please visit www.choicememorial.com
