Obituary for Cecelia Kernsted Ferguson

Ferguson, Cecilia
1939 – 2018

It is with regret that we announce the passing of Cecelia Kernested Ferguson, born Sesselja Johanna Mikkelina Olson, 88 years old. She passed peacefully in her sleep at the Chinook Hospice in Calgary on Wednesday, December 5, 2018.
Married to John Ferguson in 1952, they had six children together as they moved from Moosehorn, to Edmonton, and finally settled in Winnipeg. They divorced in 1984 and Cecelia then lived in Winnipeg, Beausejour, Chilliwack, Prince George, and Calgary. She taught school in Hilbre, Birch Bay, and Moosehorn, Manitoba early in her life. She worked for many years for the Icelandic community newspaper, Logberg-Heimskringle in Winnipeg. Cecelia was very proud of her Icelandic heritage and always baked vinnetarta for every family celebration and holiday. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Edith Cavell Chapter No. 25, Calgary, as well as a devoted member of Renfrew United Church.
She is survived by five of her children, Norman (Lynn), John, Cecelia (Larry Liebrecht), Gordon (Nikki), Megan-Rai (Joel Good); twelve grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her divorced spouse, John; daughter, Loretta Hughes; great grandchild, Otto Doell; and her two brothers, Laurence and Bill Olson. She will be well remembered with much loved thoughts and memories by her family.
Many thanks are extended to the kind Chinook Hospice staff for making her last days pleasant and comfortable.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Renfrew United Church, 956 Radnor Avenue NE, Calgary on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 3:30 pm. Baby care and toy donations for the Calgary Pregnancy Care Center can be brought to the church.
