CHAPIN, Gillian Sheila
April 12, 1954 – November 8, 2018

Gillian (Jill) Sheila Chapin of Calgary passed on Thursday, November 8, 2018 into that place where she could join with joy once more with her sorely-missed parents and cousin, Shelly, who was like a sister to her, and of course, her much-loved companion through childhood, the family beagle, Rastus.
Jill was born on April 12, 1954, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, but loved to say she was “an Army brat", raised by her Army father and his family, from where sprung her wanderlust. She is survived by two brothers, Derek (“Buckie") and Bill (Marilyn); two nephews, Dave (Shelley) and Drew; a niece, Valerie (David); and the next generation being two great-nieces, Sarah and Laura, and a great-nephew, Matthew, all of whom she loved dearly, along with a few special aunts and a couple of crazy cousins who meant the world to her.
Her wanderlust took her halfway around the world several times as a young person, including a two-year stint working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where she met and maintained lifelong relationships with friends from all over the world, who often exchanged holiday visits in their various hometowns. After that, Jill took the opportunity to see something of the world and managed about 30 countries, absorbing as much culture, history and friendships as possible along the way.
Although she never married, Jill's friends were her family. Her greatest joy was the job she loved for the last 26 years as a Medical Transcriptionist for the Calgary Health Region. Her friends inside and outside of work were a great support to her through tough times, and the fact that even their smallest child could always bring a smile to her face gave credence to their importance in her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jill's name to either the SPCA (https://www.albertaspca.org/support/single-gift.html) or Calgary Humane Society (https://www.calgaryhumane.ca/donate/in-memory) , for those creatures who are unable to help themselves.
