HAMRLIK, Darleen
On Wednesday, October 31, 2018, we lost our mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend, Darleen M (nee Schmidt) Lucier Hamrlik.
The younger of two girls, Darleen was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on July 22, 1948 to Arnold and Emma Schmidt. She grew up with her sister, Gladys on the family farm in Kilwinning, SK. Not one for the country life, Darleen made her way to Regina for a short while and then settled in Calgary in 1969 where she raised her family and made her home. While first a Mom, in her younger years, Darleen was most proud of her work with children, running her own day home and working as a teacher’s aide. In her later years, she managed the large apartment complex where she was a well-known and much-loved resident. Throughout the years, she was a caring grandma and great-grandma and inseparable from her loving companion of 40 years, Raymond Hamrlik, prior to his passing in August, 2017. We will miss her witty humour, outspoken nature, contagious laugh and unique talent for making everyone feel welcome – Darl’s door was always open.
Darleen leaves behind her three children, Darin Lucier (Linda King), Tammie Lucier (David King) and Shawn (Terri) Lucier; grandchildren, Krystal Beck (Shaun Courtemanche), Shyla (Damien) Hill, Shantel DeRuigh and Emily Lucier; great-granddaughter Alexa Leask-Beck; sister, Gladys Wilson of Saskatoon, SK; sister in spirit, Angie Fritz, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Hamrlik and parents, Arnold and Emma Schmidt.
A Celebration of Darleen’s Life will be held at Pineridge Community Association (Lower level), 6024 Rundlehorn Dr. NE, Calgary, AB on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 12:00 noon – 4:00 pm. Special thanks to EMS and the staff at South Health Campus for their compassionate care during the final weeks of Darleen’s life.
