Obituary for Stephen Rohleder

Stephen Rohleder
January 13, 1959 - Sunday, September 23, 2018

On Sunday morning September 23, 2018 Stephen closed his eyes and went into the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Diane; mother Frances (Ireland); brothers Paul (Ireland), Mark (Noreen) (Florida); sister Karen (Ireland), Bianca and Robbie (Ireland.); cousins Alice, Anthony, Deaglan and Dylan (Australia); in-laws Frank and Rosena, Andrew and Ann-Marie, Jordan, and nephew Daniel (Red Deer). Stephen is predeceased by his father Paul Sr.

Stephen started his career in the oil and gas industry with Shell. His time with the company gave him many travel opportunities and lifetime memories. He was an incredibly hard worker and was very generous with his time and extensive knowledge. He put all of his efforts into the projects he worked on. Later in life he put those strengths towards working with his respected friend Trent and many other talented people to grow and encourage sustainability for the Indigenous communities.

Stephen loved his homeland Ireland and his heart was always there. He was a true Irish man that loved his mashed potatoes and Sunday supper with Diane. Of course, sports brought Stephen joys and anguish. He always said he was a 'long suffering Minnesota Vikings fan' as he watched the team since childhood. He would also give Diane weekly updates on the Leeds United rankings and was so hopeful when they were in first place. It was always a long countdown until the next World and Euro Cup when he could put on his Germany jersey and invite his dear friend Bruce over cheer on the team.

He looked forward to the months that he was able to grow his tomato garden and was always determined to beat the previous year's crop. The rewards of his work were generously shared with family and friends.

Diane and the family thank everyone for their kind words and prayers. At the family's request, any donations be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

Words he promised on his wedding day:

The vows I take will be forever:
I'll love you all my life.
There's no part way, no holding back
Once we are man and wife.

The choice is made, and now I swim
In a far different sea,
The shores of which are bright green hills
Raised up for you and me.

Our love is like a mountainside
Awash in lovely flowers:
It is our home, our solid rock,
Where all bright things are ours.

And though of need we often must
Spend our days apart,
Our love will always be with us,
Held within the heart.

I feel it now, so strong and free,
So part of every breath
That it must live-I swear it will!-
Even after death.
