Obituary for Brent Thomas Carson Kirby

Brent Thomas Carson Kirby died suddenly at his home in Calgary Alberta on September 8, 2018 at the age of 60 due to heart failure. Brent was born in Port Arthur Sept 25, 1957 and spent his early years living in Schreiber, ON until the family moved to Thunder Bay. As a boy he attended local schools and spent his summers working on Grandma and Grandpa Kirby's farm in Whitemouth, Manitoba with his brothers. The reward at the end of summer was swimming & fishing at the camp on Lake of the Woods, in Kenora, ON.

Brent valued education and worked at a variety of jobs to pay his own way through University where he was able to achieve a Bachelor's of Science Degree, with a specialization in Geography. He was proud of his career by working as a Planner in both Edmonton, and Calgary. He became a lifelong learner gaining technical skills with his photography, and trained as a videographer.

Brent was motivated to live in a climate where he could develop a work and lifestyle balance. He had an eclectic collection of music, a passion for knowledge through reading, and a regular pursuit of travel. At one time he spent 6 months travelling through Mexico, and admittedly joked that he found it hard to break the afternoon siesta habit once he returned home.

Brent had a strong relationship with his camera, and sought to pursue artistic photography in a number of venues. He created a 3 D imaging service well before it's time and won first prize in an artistic collection in Paris, France for one of his inventive photos. He described his fiscal responsibility as “being on the program” where he was able to become a success entrepreneur achieving success in obtaining valued real estate. Brent was considered introspective but he always made the time for family by attending reunions, and holiday gatherings. He talked about his lifestyle practicality of eat right (oatmeal for breakfast), do yoga every day, walk or bicycle where you need to go, take a swim in a good lake every summer, and put on those skates in the winter. He was known for being an enthusiast of a current book complemented by his love for that perfect cup of espresso coffee.

Brent is lovingly remembered by his mother Raili MacVittie, (Bill predeceased), brothers, Steve MacVittie, (Liz), Kevin Kirby, (Cindy), Greg Mac Vittie, Sisters Lori MacVittie, (Danny) Kelly Vaillancourt, Susan Kirby, (Chris), LeeAnn McCullough, (Mark) and brother Mark MacVittie, as well as his nieces and nephews. Services for Brent Kirby will take place on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 2 pm in the Sargent and Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with a reception to follow.
