Obituary for Jean Ann Mogensen

Jean Ann Mogensen
Jean Mogensen
January 31st, 1962 - August 30th, 2018

It is with great sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Jean Ann Mogensen on August 30, 2018. Born at Calgary’s Holy Cross Hospital on January 31, 1962, Jean spent most of her life in Calgary, interspersed with periods in other parts of the world as she pursued her passions for travel and adventure.

Jean was predeceased by her mother, Helen Elizabeth Mogensen, in 2013. Left to mourn are many, including her beloved husband Marc Langlois, her father Hugh Mogensen, siblings and their spouses: Karen & Ken Gummo, Faye Mogensen & Christian Engelstoft, Ruth Mogensen & Allan Hart, Cathy & Brent Harrold, and Rick & Boon-Hwa (Hana) Mogensen. Nieces and nephews left to remember Jean are: Heather (Zevi), Stephen & Julia (Nate) Gummo; Kaya (Kolby) & Nadia (Evan) Engelstoft & Emil (Nicole) Mogensen; Ben Stordy & Katelyn Hart; Chloe, Olivia, & Carmen Harrold; Adam, Evan, Kyle & Isaac Mogensen, along with a newborn great-niece Lily Louise Cherniawsky. Jean had countless kind and caring friends/associates in the business and yoga communities, together with a large extended family who will all miss her dearly.

Jean was a respected member of Calgary’s oil industry where she was employed for over thirty years as a contracts landman/analyst and nurtured many long standing friendships in the land community.

So many loved this adventurous young girl and woman. At a young age Jean developed a love of exploration; first on her own and later with friends and family she explored the globe. She had a gifted ear and love for languages and culture, taking up and becoming fluent in both French and Spanish as an adult student. She loved to meet diverse peoples and often made new friends of the strangers she encountered. Jean pursued a love of the outdoors and running as she entered marathons and numerous other events in Calgary and around the world. After her marriage to Marc in 2006, they together pursued many adventurous travel and outdoor exploits that often included friends and extended family.

In recent years, Jean nurtured a strong passion for yoga, in both its physical and philosophical elements, and this circle was a great source of support as she struggled with complex health challenges through to her final days.

Jean and Marc had recently built a home in Penticton and were in the process of relocating there at the time of her passing. Many neighbours and friends there will also treasure their memories of Jean.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held in the Charleswood Room of the Triwood Community Association Hall - 2244 Chicoutimi Drive NW, Calgary - on Monday September 17th at 1:00 PM. If desired, condolences can be expressed below and donations made to the Centre for Suicide Prevention in memory of Jean Mogensen.
