Obituary for Jean Margaret Palmer (Evans)

Jean Margaret Palmer
March 10th, 1931 - Saturday, August 11th, 2018

Sadly, we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Jean Margaret Palmer (Evans) on Saturday, August 11th, 2018 at the age of 87. Following a short but complicated battle with congestive heart failure, she passed peacefully at the Calgary Chinook Hospice.

Jean was born in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales and raised in Hillingdon, Middlesex, UK, where she met and married her husband Gerald in 1950. They had one son, Kelvin. The family immigrated to Canada in 1957 and resided in Toronto and Oak Ridges. For many years Jean pursued her love of breeding, showing, and judging American Cocker Spaniels. In addition to operating her own Keljeager Kennels, she was very active in both the Canadian and Aurora Kennel Clubs, while working as a freelance bookkeeper. Gerald predeceased Jean in 1978.

Upon retiring from the busy dog show circuit and selling her family home, Jean’s later years were spent in Newmarket, Ontario. Still working part-time, and occasionally participating with dog shows, she was involved in her community and extremely proud of her graduation from the York Regional Police Senior Citizens Academy. Daily crossword puzzles, cryptograms, knitting and crochet were always favourite pastimes of Jean’s as well as participating in seniors day trips and travel tours.

Jean is survived by her son Kelvin and her daughter-in-law Ruth of Calgary; her four grandchildren: Dr. Jaime Palmer-Hague (Ryan) of Port Coquitlam, Elyse Dods (Curtis), Kelsey Palmer and Jeremy Palmer, Calgary; and her five great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Easton, Lia, Caleb and Alexander... not forgetting about Holly who is now quite at home with Kelvin and Ruth.

The family would like to send a very special thank you to the staff at the South Health Campus and the Calgary Chinook Hospice. We request that any donations in Jean’s name please be forwarded to the Calgary Chinook Hospice.
