Betty Lou Ferguson
Betty Lou Ferguson
January 12th, 1943 – May 5th, 2018
It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful and caring mom and grandma, Betty Lou Ferguson on May 5th, in Calgary Alberta. Betty was surrounded by her loving family as her life on earth ended peacefully at the age of 75 years old. Betty fought a courageous battle with illness, with a pleasant and positive attitude throughout, which encouraged others to see the true meaning of life. Betty was a special soul; she was kind, generous, loving and always willing to take the time to listen and help others. Her happiness stemmed from putting the needs of others before her own. Whether she was lending a compassionate ear, or sharing the fruits of her labours, to baking a beautiful cake, Betty enjoyed seeing others smile. Everyone she touched will have a fond memory of her love and generosity.
Betty was born in Port Alberni, BC on January 12th, 1943 to Lewis and Eva Clark. She has 4 sisters (Margaret, Judy, Elsie, and Linda) and 4 brothers (Arnie, Gordon, Bob and Garry). She met and married her husband Archie Ferguson in Cumberland BC before moving out to Revelstoke in 1959, making Revelstoke her home until her passing. In her earlier years Betty was an avid baseball player, pitching for the Big Eddy and Downie Street Jets. She had many fond memories of her baseball years and spoke highly of her teammates in the days before her passing. She loved sports, bowling, snowmobiling, fishing, camping, animals (crows) gardening, and homemaking. She baked the best pies, chiffon cakes, celebration dinners, and grew the best garden vegetables which she shared with many neighbours and friends. Her house was always open to friends and family passing through Revelstoke. She loved her grandchildren, Michaela, Samantha, Bradley and Christopher, and made precious memories with them as she cared and loved for them dearly in her home. The grandchildren always knew Grams was there to listen and not judge, and to feed them one awesome meal. She was the light in all of our lives when anyone felt troubled, they knew Grams was there to listen without judgement and to offer positive advice.
A special thank you to Les and Linda Sutherland, and Mick and Mary Sutherland, who made my mom’s final years special, showing that her kindness was returned by the exceptional care they showed her over the past years. Les, my mom loved your smile and she often commented on how your beautiful smile made her happy as you removed the enormous amounts of snow from her yard and how you always made time to talk with her.
Ruth and Little Pat were mom’s special friends. Mom enjoyed your friendship and kindness throughout the years, and enjoyed having coffee and girl talks while building fond memories over the many years. I hope those memories will make mom’s passing a bit easier. We all knew not to call the house between 9 – 10 am as that was the mom and Ruth call.
Mom and the family would also like to thank Dr. Kirk and Kate McCarroll for all the compassion, love and support shown throughout her illness. Your compassion for seniors, your calls to the house and Calgary will forever be remembered. My mom spoke highly of you daily.
Betty leaves behind her beloved children, Arnie (Marie), and Debi (Todd), grandchildren, Bradley, Jonathan, Christopher, Samantha, Zawar, Michaela, Taryn, Rory, Brad, and great grandchildren, Hanley and Hanson, Sisters, Margaret, Elsie (Sig), Judy (Bill) and Linda (Bruce), Brothers; Gord (Grace) and Bob (Linda) and many special friends. Betty was predeceased by her loving husband Archie Ferguson and her special companion Mickey MacDonald, her older brother Arnie and wife Patti and her younger brother Garry.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Mom’s honor on Saturday, July 28th from 1 pm until 5 pm. Mom’s request was to celebrate her life with all her friends and family with good memories, food and refreshments. Please join the family on this date to celebrate the life of Betty and all the wonderfulness she brought to this world and all the lives she touched with her generosity, love and kindness.
