Robert E. Holscher passed away peacefully with family at his side on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the age of 92.

He will be remembered for his incredible memory and keen interest in world affairs. He spoke 5 languages fluently and took great pride in his many collections of stamps, coins and historic postcards and letters. He was also very proud to be living independently and driving right up until his last days.

Robert was a devoted member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and was also a 4th degree Knight of Columbus. A highlight of his life was to have been invited to Rome and personally thanked by Pope Francis for his many contributions.

He will be sadly missed by his daughter Jackie Dixon (Perry); son Paul (Cindy Munn); foster-son Sean Meggs (Kari); his beloved grandchildren Daniel, Samuel, Marnie Dixon, Alison Munn, Lisa Holscher, Bryanna and Denver Meggs; his sister Mieke Goudeau (Johannes); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and an infant son and infant daughter.

Robert was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, He helped out in the family bakery business and served in the Dutch military during World War II, stationed in Indonesia. He immigrated to Canada in 1957 with his new bride, Francis, and settled in Vancouver, BC, working at the Westin Bayshore. Robert moved with his wife and two young children to Banff, AB in 1969, where he owned and operated several businesses, including Emerald Lake Chalet and the Field Hotel.

We will all miss the fascinating discussions we had with him on a wide variety of topics. He lived a full and rich life and was one of a rare breed – he cherished the finer things and was a true gentlemen. - Welterusten Papa - Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church (711 37 Street NW) on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 11:00 am.
