Obituary for Bruce McKay

Bruce McKay
McKay, Thomas George Bruce
September 17, 1927 – April 3, 2018

Thomas George Bruce McKay passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at the age of 90 years. He will be lovingly remembered for his kind, caring and loving nature. Bruce will be sadly missed by his children Greg, Rod (Nancy) and Janice (Kevin); and his beloved grandchildren Colin, Sara, Emily and Graeme. Bruce was predeceased by his wife Mamie, his parents, and sister Doris Hanke.

Bruce was born on the family homestead overlooking the North Saskatchewan River on September 17, 1927. He was always proud of his Saskatchewan heritage, often remarking on the province as a diamond in the rough. Bruce enjoyed a fulfilling 35+ year career as manager of freight sales/service (Southern, AB) with Canadian National Railways, where he and Mamie made many lasting friendships. Bruce actively served his community as a member of the Kiwanis (downtown) Club of Calgary and as a faithful servant involved in many ministries at St. Laurence Anglican Church. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Bow Crest LTC Centre and Home Instead Senior Care for their care of Bruce in his final days. Most especially, we are grateful for the many visits and companionship from special friends Don Rae, Pat Creegan, Art Yeske and Spencer Stevens.

Funeral Service will be held at St. Laurence Anglican Church (5940 Lakeview Dr. SW) on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in the lower hall. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to St. Laurence Anglican Church or to Kamp Kiwanis.
