Obituary for Andy David Herselman

Andy David Herselman
Andy Herselman
December 29, 1957 - Friday, March 23, 2018

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the sudden passing of Andy David Herselman on March 23, 2018.

Andy is survived by his sister Joanne (Ken), his nephews Michael and Robert, his niece Kristin (Adrian). Andy recently became a great uncle to young Connor. He is predeceased by his father, Pieter and mother, Aletta.

Andy was a free-spirited, unique, and at times, unconventional person, with a kind, gentle soul, who loved to share his wonder of nature and the natural world with those around him. Andy loved being outdoors: long hikes and riding his bike were a part of his everyday lifestyle. Some of his favourite treks were through the city core and along the Bow and Elbow rivers. He frequented the Bragg Creek, Kananaskis and Canmore regions. Andy was part of a large renovation project in the Tunnel Mountain area and loved to spend his leisure time finding interesting trails into and around the town of Banff. His time spent in the Sheep River area, south of Calgary, with friends or alone under the stars, was of profound spiritual importance to Andy.

As an aficionado of the natural world, ecology and nutrition came together in the form of an organic life style. Andy was a committed supporter of local food producers and loved to concoct wonder drinks with his retro industrial grade blender. These drinks were often served with an educational note or two.

As a pondering musician and craftsman, Andy’s gentle inflections accompanied many a joyous jam session with his expansive musical family. His carpentry skills blossomed into a fine career choice, which led to many life long friendships with his fellow tradesman and contractors. Andy took pride in attention to detail and his ability to problem solve in the work he did for and with others.

His love and respect for family, friendship, nature, nutrition, music, instrument and craftsmanship made for a fitting soundtrack and signature of Andy’s life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Kensington Pub ( 207 - 10A St. NW ) on April 22, 2018 from 1-5 pm. Feel free to bring your stories, memories and instruments as we raise a glass and sing a song for Andy David Herselman.
