Obituary for Shane Morley Harrison

Shane Morley Harrison
Shane Harrison
July 19th, 1961 - Tuesday, March 6th, 2018

It is with profound shock and sadness that Shane's family announce his sudden passing in Calgary on March 6, 2018 at the age of 56.

Shane is lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his mother Margaret; sister, Charmaine Harrison of Edmonton; beloved dog Lola; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his father John in June of 2012.

Shane was born and raised in Balcarres, Saskatchewan. As a boy, he collected rocks and fossils and knew exactly what he wanted to be when he grew up – a geologist.

He completed his master's degree in paleontology at the University of Saskatchewan and moved to Calgary to work for a time in the oil and gas sector. Later Shane moved to Ontario and completed a master's degree in hydrogeology at the University of Waterloo. He moved back to Calgary and worked as a hydrogeologist for many years.

He was passionate about his profession and was a member of APEGA. Shane truly enjoyed his work and spent a lot of time in the field, which suited his love of the outdoors. He was meticulous and his family often teased him about his lengthy and detailed reports.

Shane was a lifelong learner and a natural athlete. His second great passion in life was sports. Whatever sport he undertook, his goal was to perfect it and become knowledgeable about all aspects of it. He played baseball and was into cross-country and downhill skiing and most recently, archery.

The two sports Shane loved most were hockey and golf. He played hockey for most of his life and skated whenever he had an opportunity. He was a true student of the game of golf and loved to teach and help people with their questions. He had completed his Instructor Certification and loved to hang out at the Golf Dome and the Golf Academy.

Shane was devoted to his mom and visited her regularly at her seniors residence in Edmonton. His visits were always cause for wild celebration by the family dog Lola. They adored each other.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Saskatchewan. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Shane's memory to your local minor hockey association or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

Shane, our hearts shattered when your heart stopped. Words cannot express how much we miss you. We love you dearly and forever.
