My Teacher, My Friend

Rose White was my Business Education teacher at Bowness High School from 1982-1984. To say she was my teacher, however, does not begin to express how much more she meant to me. Not only did she teach me what I needed to know in order to pursue a career in the field of Accounting, but she encouraged me to grow and develop into a confident young woman and to have pride in my work and my abilities. This was difficult for me, as I suffered from a lack of self-esteem and I had little confidence in my abilities, however with Mrs. Whites guidance and her belief in me, I proceeded into life with a new sense of self-purpose and direction. I fondly remember going to visit her after High School graduation at her home in Scenic Acres, where she would periodically give me a bit of work typing out Coris University assignments, and we would have lunch and visit. On the day I graduated High School, Mrs. White gave me a gift of a gold cross pendant and a gold Cross pen set, both of which I still have and treasure to this day. Whenever I have times throughout my life when I may be feeling down on myself, I wear the cross necklace and remember Mrs. White telling me You're good, youre good!. I also still have my first reference letter that she wrote for me when I proceeded to enter the business world to begin my career. I have always held these fond memories of this wonderful lady close to my heart, and I was very happy when I was able to reconnect with Rose during her brief stay at the Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre, where I now work. The world has lost a beautiful person, but Heaven has gained a beautiful soul! My deepest sympathy to Cori and her family! Your Mother will always hold a very special place in my heart!
