Obituary for Edward John Weidman

Edward John Weidman
Edward Weidman
September 6th, 1945 - January 15th, 2018

Our beloved farther Edward Weidman passed away on Monday, January 15th, 2018 at the age of 72. Dad was born in Vernon, BC. He worked on his family's farm and sawmill. He also helped his Dad and others build the Peace Lutheran church in Vernon. Later on, he moved to Calgary and worked on various construction jobs where he met the McEwings and his future beloved wife Mildred McEwing. He married Mildred in Osoyoos. They started their family in Calgary and had three boys, Craig, Mark and Todd. Later, they moved to Lumby where he built three houses over the years for his family while working at the sawmill. In the late eighties, the family moved to Fort St John where he worked as a mechanic with his brother Wayne. Later, the family moved to Grande Prairie and he obtained his trucking license. He worked as an oil patch, ice road and long haul trucker throughout Canada and the US for many decades. Due to the number of times Dad moved, it should have been obvious Dad was destined to be a trucker. Dad and Mom happily retired in Chase.

For Dad and Mom, family was everything. He may have been a quiet man but anyone who knew him well knew he was kind, warm hearted, outgoing and had a very sharp and mischievous sense of humor.

Dad will be missed by everyone who knew him. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 48 years, Mildred, who passed away on Dec 21, 2016. He is survived by sister Joan (Bruce), brother Wayne (Catriona), sons Craig (daughter Jessica), Mark (Joey-Lynn) and Todd.

We would like to thank all the wonderful people at the Home/Palliative Care and Tom Baker Cancer Centre. We would like to especially thank everyone at the Southwood Hospice for taking such wonderful care of Dad. He often told us he felt at home at the Southwood Hospice.

A private visitation will be followed by cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Center (https://albertacancer.ca/donate/cancer-centres).
