D. Elaine Filipski

Elaine Filipski passed away peacefully at the Foothills Country Hospice on January 13, 2018 at the age of 61. Elaine was born in Edmonton, Alberta on December 22, 1956. She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Rick, as well as their two sons: Matthew, and his wife Meghan as well as Gregory and his wife Michelle, all of Calgary. She is also survived by her father Frank O’Dwyer of Edmonton, her brother Kevin O’Dwyer, his wife Louann, their son Sean of Strathmore and her sister Margaret Hassink, her husband Rick and their children Nicholas and Jeannine of Cochrane, as well as her brother in-law Gerald and his wife Julie of Parksville, B.C. Elaine was predeceased by her mother Denise O’Dwyer in 2007. Elaine is also survived by numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

Elaine completed her Bachelor of Education Degree at the University of Alberta and proceeded to teach in Medicine Hat for 3 years and Edmonton for 5 years. After marrying in 1984 and starting her family in 1986 she left teaching and remained at home to care for her family.

Elaine loved to paint and became an accomplished artist.

She was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 and has battled the disease with courage, strength, and determination. She remained positive in her struggles despite the toll they would take on her body.

Elaine and Rick moved to Calgary in 2013 to be closer to their boys and her extended family. Elaine’s family and personal connections were of paramount importance to her. She cherished any time spent with family and special friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church (10 Prestwick Drive SE, Calgary, Alberta T2Z 4J6) with Reception to follow.
