Obituary for Margaret Rose Holmes

Margaret Rose Holmes
HOLMES, Margaret Rose
April 30, 1941 - December 16, 2017

Marg passed away surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at the age of 76.

She will be greatly missed by her daughters Karen O'Connor (Tim), and Laurie Derksen (Dale); son Darren Snyder; grandchildren Ryan (Alexandra), Jenna, Caitlyn, Aydan and Kieran; great-grandchildren Liam and Tommy; her sisters Arlene and Donna Bain (who she found later in life), and sister-in-law Joan Snyder. Marg was pre-deceased by her amazing parents Janet and Art Holmes, fondly known as Nanny and Poppy, and her brother Roy Holmes (Kay).

Marg was a smart, vibrant woman who lived a life filled with love and passion; she was also a wonderful mother and doting grandmother. Marg enjoyed a 30+ year career as a Petroleum Landman (CAPL) and also earned a BA in Political Science from the U of C. She was a strong, independent woman who accomplished many things in her lifetime.

Marg travelled extensively around the world, and especially enjoyed cruises. She loved golf and played well into her 60s. She also loved playing scrabble with her son, crossword puzzles, and a good cappuccino any time of day. In her younger years, Marg was an accomplished accordion player. She was also a long-time member of the Calgary Activettes service organization. One’s lifetime is hard to sum up in a few paragraphs; that being said, Marg’s journey was fulfilled and blessed - the memories and experiences she shared with others on her lifelong journey will always be kept close to our hearts and never forgotten.

Marg’s family would like to thank the Staff at Newport Harbour Care Centre for their excellent care. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Choice Memorial (105 – 4715 13 Street NE, Calgary). In lieu of flowers, donations in Marg’s memory are gratefully accepted by the Canadian Lung Association (https://www.lung.ca/get-involved/donate/) or the Calgary Humane Society (https://www.calgaryhumane.ca/donate/).
