Obituary for Wiebe Huisman

Wiebe Huisman
Wiebe Huisman
March 21, 1938 - November 20, 2017

Wiebe Huisman, 79, passed peacefully from this world on the evening of Monday, November 20 at Agapé Hospice in Calgary, Canada, with family members at his side.

Born in 1938, at the onset of World War II, in Leeuwarden, Friesland, Netherlands, Wiebe was the son of Ale and Grace Huisman. After the liberation of the Netherlands and the end of the war, Wiebe, along with his family, immigrated to Canada and settled in Edmonton, Alberta.

In his youth, Wiebe began working for the University Hospital as a mailman, but eventually found employment with the University of Alberta printing services department, where he remained for 38 years until his retirement in the early 1990's.

As a young man, he married Lorraine Frechette and during their time together, the couple raised a small family of three children: Patricia, Joanne and Michael.

After Lorrainne's death in 1976, and while the children were yet still relatively young, Wiebe continued to work and raise the children as a single parent, until a year later when he was introduced to Sandra Allan Stott, of Memphis, Tennessee, USA. After a short long-distance courtship, Wiebe and Sandra married in 1978 and Sandra, along with her daughter, Amy, relocated from Memphis to Edmonton.

Wiebe and Sandra, over their 38 years of marriage, were virtually inseparable. Together they started several businesses, raised funds for charitable organizations such as Stars Air Ambulance, worked side-by-side as volunteer support and administration staff for numerous Christian ministries and worked as a team at World Financial Group where they helped people become financially healthy and successful.

Wiebe was a tireless and dedicated caregiver during Sandra's many years of illness and declining health, resulting in her passing in August of 2016.

He was a loving, steadfast and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and role model who found humour in every situation, always had a word of encouragement for everyone, and whom was often heard saying,

"There are three things that are important in my life: my faith, my family and my business, in that order!"

A Celebration of Life will be held, December 3, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Springs of Joy Fellowship, meeting at the Frank Wills Memorial Hall, 405 1st Street East in Cochrane, Alberta, Canada.

All are welcome.
