Obituary for Constance Laverne "Connie" Hofmeister (Gray)

Constance Laverne "Connie" Hofmeister (Gray)
Connie (Constance) Laverne Hofmeister (nee Gray)

On Wednesday, November 15, 2017, Connie passed away, after a long hard battle with cancer, at the age of 59 years, in Calgary AB, at the Rocky View Hospital, with her husband and children by her side.

Connie was born in Edmonton on December 3, 1957. She was forced to become independent at the age of 7 with the passing of her mother from breast cancer. Growing up, she moved to Peace River, then Grande Prairie. During this time, she developed her love for sports, starting with running track and field, then curling and playing broom ball.

At the age of 14, Connie left home and started working part time at the Bay. Three years later, she married Carl and worked as a dental assistant. In 1979, she had her first child. In 1984, she moved with her family to Calgary and had her second child. She became a single mother in 1987, and soon after started her cleaning company. She devoted all her time and energy to supporting and caring for her children.

At a high school reunion in 2000, she reconnected with her second husband, Bruce. She later retired and moved back to Grande Prairie to be with Bruce, and there she stayed.

Connie was thrilled to become a grandmother in 2014 and again in 2017. In 2010, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and learned she carried BRCA 1. After winning the battle with breast cancer, a few years later she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer which eventually metastasized.

Connie was adored by her children and husband. She knew how to make a person feel loved. Many hearts will be affected by her passing. Her family is comforted in knowing she is no longer suffering and is reunited with her mother.

She will be greatly missed by her two children Chris and Chelsea (Jason), husband Bruce, grandchildren Charlotte and Jade, father Bill, brother Trevor, along with many other family and friends.

She was predeceased by her mother Shirley, grandmother Marcia and grandfather Bill.

The family would like to thank the Rocky View Hospital and the MAID Program for their wonderful care.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017, at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).

Interment will be held at a later date in Edmonton at Beechmount Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Connie requested donations be made to Alberta Cancer Foundation (710, 10123 99 St., Edmonton, AB, T5J 3H1, www.albertacancer.ca).
