Obituary for Vivian Marie Breti (Cook)

Vivian Marie Breti (Cook)
Vivian Breti
February 20th, 1938 - Monday, November 13th, 2017

Vivian Marie Breti, aged 79, went home to be with her Heavenly Father in the early morning hours of November 13, 2017, while a resident at The AgeCare Glenmore Long Term Care Facility in Calgary, Alberta. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God were at the core of everything she did.

Vivian was born, at home, to Margaret and Kenneth Cook on February 20, 1938 in Hazel Dell, Saskatchewan. She lived in Hazel Dell until she left home at the age of 18 to begin working in Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan. She worked at Fort San as a nurse’s aide where she met the love of her life, and future husband, William “Bill” Breti, and her best friend, and future sister-in-law, Madeline Breti (née Cleverley). Vivian married Bill on February 2, 1957. They were married for 60 years.

Mom worked hard to create a warm and caring home for her family wherever Bill’s work led them. She was an excellent homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her loved ones and she especially loved to cook. She shared her love of helping others by cooking for many summers at Bible camps such as Nut Mountain, Strasbourg, Swan River and Faith Bible Camp. She was very creative and her hands were rarely still. She enjoyed making dolls for her granddaughters and wedding cakes for family and friends. Mom had a huge servant heart, enjoying the work she did wherever she was.

Vivian loved the Lord with all her heart and loved to teach children and adults about her faith. Many years were given to ministering to children at Bible clubs. She had a creative and unique way to tell Bible stories with flannel graphs. She loved fishing, berry picking, making jam and canning. She was deeply involved with the Christian Women’s Organization where she ran a Bible study class and used her creativity with table themes. No matter what the task, Vivian was always ready to help a friend in need with a meal or whatever else they might need.

Vivian is survived by her husband William “Bill” Breti of Salt Coats, Saskatchewan, her siblings Marjorie (Dick) Reynolds, Eric (Glennis) Cook, Bessie Arnie, Clifford (June) Cook, David (Elva) Cook, Raymond (Gaylene) Cook, Bruce (Jane) Cook and Phyllis (Ron) Zimmerman, her children Karen (Richard) Swystun of Winnipeg, Sherry (Kevin) McDonald of Calgary, Jeff (Afroza) Breti of Vancouver and Janet (Barry) Saik of Calgary, her grandchildren John, Caroline (Cameron), Noah (Melanie), Whitney, Parker, Jenna, Sumaiya, Mahjabin, Cameron and Theoren and her two great-grandchildren Emma and Caleb. All of these immediate family members she loved and touched deeply.

She was predeceased by her son Kenneth William Breti, her father Kenneth Fairhurst Cook, her mother Margaret Alice Cook and her brother Wallace “Ken” Cook.

A funeral service will be held at First Assembly Church, 6031 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, Alberta, on Saturday November 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.

A special thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Integrated Care Centre, Lestock, Saskatchewan, where mom resided for 6 years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to “www.campokotoks.com”.
