Obituary for Robert George "Bob" Veitch

Robert George "Bob" Veitch
Robert George Veitch
July 17, 1926 – November 3, 2017

After a short illness, Robert (Bob) Veitch passed away peacefully in the presence of his son on Friday, November 3, 2017.

Bob was born in Calgary 91 years ago and was a resident of Calgary his entire life. He attended Balmoral school on 16th Avenue and through reunions, kept in touch with his school mates until just a couple of years ago. He joined the armed forces in war-time. In July, 1952 he married Delores Jean Benner, who passed in 1998. They had one child, son Scott Robert. Bob was a very devoted and caring husband and father. He will be sorely missed by his son (and daughter-in-law Denise), who has lost not only his father but his best friend and counsel. Bob is also survived by a large extended family, living primarily in Alberta and BC; and, as he was a very social, good-natured and intelligent man, he had many friends.

The remainder of Bob's immediate family had predeceased him. They include his father George in 1959, his mother Mary (May) in 1986, his brother Gordon and his sister Margret Tatterton (Peggy) in 2014.

Bob had a career as an accountant, operating a small firm through to his retirement. He was very active in the community (Calgary Active Club), and through his church, usually on the Board as the treasurer. His retirement was short lived, as he went on to manage two (2) Independent Living Senior Citizen Apartments, Rose Manor and Sharon Manor, for about the next ten (10) years. Upon his second retirement, he had only two (2) accounts for whom he still did work and he helped his son with his business's accounting for many years.

Save for the last year, since a very debilitating fall in December of 2016, which resulted in three (3) months in the hospital and another two (2) months in Carewest Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre, Bob had excellent health and enjoyed his long-life, friends, work and family. Although he missed his wife Delores dearly, their cremated remains will soon be reunited and scattered as they wished, in the Bow river. Bob and his family would like to thank the staff at the Rockyview General Hospital, the Carewest Fanning Centre and his home-care team for their caring, kindness and compassion during this period.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Sharon Lutheran Church / Danish Lutheran Church (210 10th Ave NE, Calgary, AB T2E 0W9; 403-277-4085).
