Obituary for Walter Glen Flathen

Walter Glen Flathen
Walter Flathen
April 21st, 1942 - November 4th, 2017

Walt was born in 1942 in Lethbridge, Alberta, moving to Calgary after high school to attend SAIT. He went into a commercial construction career and worked for Burns & Dutton, PCL Construction, Walter & SCI Construction. Some of his positions took him to Detroit, Minnesota, Saskatchewan and finally, Calgary. Walt progressed from being an Estimator to Project Manager to Vice Presidential positions. In 1997, he and a former colleague started their own project management company, Keystone Management. After working in partnership with a local developer (Rencor Construction) for several years, Walter retired in 2005 and moved to Kelowna, British Columbia in 2006.

He was pre-deceased by his mother, Grace Bowles (nee Hollet), daughter, Stephanie Bainbridge (nee Flathen), and brother in law, Ron Jones.

Walt is survived by his wife Dale (nee Henderson) whom he married in 1990; two daughters, Jacquie Neal (Aaron) and Catherine Wagner (Trent); grandchildren Megan, Jessica, Chelsea, Emmett, Rebecca, Zachary, Alexander, Madeline, Evan and Nicholas; great grandchildren, Silas and Gia; step-children Bryan (Elaine), Michelle (Glenn), Melanie (Simon) and many step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his older brother Melvin (Mary), his beloved sisters, Elaine Jones and Millicent (Ross) from Trail, BC and numerous nieces and nephews.

Walter, or Walt to those who were close to him or whom he connected with immediately, was generous, compassionate, loyal, loving, strong, and hospitable. Walt loved his wife and family with extreme love and devotion. He was there for everyone, always looking for ways to bless and protect them.
We are sad that he is no longer with us, but he will forever be in our hearts. We are assured that he is with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus.

A private service will be held to celebrate Walt's life. To view and share photos, condolences and stories of Walter please visit www.choicememorial.com. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Choice Memorial Cremation & Funeral Services (403) 277-7343.
