May 17th, 1920 - November 3rd, 2017
Emily passed away on 3rd November 2017 at the age of 97 in the exemplary care of Rockyview Hospital after a short illness.
Emily was born at Tillyfar, a farm near Turriff in Scotland, the youngest of five children. She left home to study nursing in Edinburgh and worked in Shetland and Guernsey before emigrating to Canada in 1954. She nursed in Toronto and Manitoba before the call of the wild took her to Inuvik in NWT. She spent many happy and adventurous years caring for people of the North and enjoying the experiences of the Artic. Emily went on to nurse in Fort Simpson before retiring to Calgary. There she continued to enjoy skiing and hiking in the mountains well into her 80s. She was a talented badminton player and cycled until she was 85. She had always been a traveller and in retirement she travelled the world enjoying new places and experiences. She remained close to her family in Scotland and in later years visited annually.
Emily led a full and caring life, touching and improving the lives of many and gaining many lifelong friends along the way. She will be sadly missed by all her friends and family. To quote her great friend Jean - "she is off flying, hiking or camping with the angels"
