Obituary for Byron Douglas Hodge

Byron Douglas Hodge
Byron (Barney) Douglas Hodge
February 8, 1946 – September 17, 2017

Barney died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 17, 2017 in Calgary, Alberta.
He was predeceased by his parents Marjorie and Norman Hodge and his wife Liz Hodge. Barney is survived by his son Andrew Hodge (Jennifer), siblings Frances MacLeod (Keith) and William Hodge (Diane), and sister-in-law Trudy Hodge.

Barney was born and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He spent time in Saskatoon and then moved to Edmonton, Alberta where he excelled in sales with Moore Business Forms. He took on a management position with his wife Val in the early days of Boston Pizza in Lethbridge, Alberta and continued in the pizza business in Pincher Creek and Airdrie.
Barney set up a printing company Printco and called Calgary home. It was through Printco that he met his soul mate Liz, and they formed a printing business together. They discovered their love of animals and established the Walk-A-Doo dog-walking business, which led to the development of organic dog food and dog biscuits at Doggone Bakery. Liz and Barney enjoyed their time together with “the northwest friends” on the golf course and Fridays at “The Last Straw” pub. Always fun loving and jovial, Barney was at his best telling stories and making people laugh. In 2014 when Barney lost his beloved companion Liz, he lost his motivation to keep the business going and he retired.

Special thanks to cousin Marcia Dark for reaching out to Barney these past few years. Also thanks to Kevin and Vicki Kemlo, special friends of Barney’s. Barney will be missed by his many friends in Calgary as well as his childhood buddies from Moose Jaw.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral. A celebration of Barney’s life will be organized by his friends at a later date.
