Obituary for Christine Ann Louie

Christine Ann Louie
Christine Louie
January 10, 1966 - August 18, 2017

Our beloved Christine Ann Louie passed away suddenly on Friday, August 18, 2017 at the age of 51. Christine is survived by her loving son Alexander Richard Louie and daughter Kathryn Alanna Hilda Louie. Predeceased by her mother Hilda Schlosar, Christine leaves behind her close family: her dear father Frank Schlosar; her sister Elizabeth Ayer (John) and children Paula Ayer (Shekhar Paleja, daughter Sulekha) and John Carleton Ayer (Carolyn Brown); her sister Hilde Schlosar (Carl Marston) and sons Adam Tetrault (Candy, children Kimberly and Christian), and Dylan Tetrault (Jennifer, children Brittany and Emily); and her brother John Schlosar (Carol) and children Jay Schlosar (Tamara Schweeder, son Linus) and Jillian Semsch (Andreas).

Having earned a Masters in Religious Education M.R.E. (with distinction), G.D.R.E. and B.Ed., since 1990 Christine has been an educator, consultant and Administrator with Calgary Catholic School District, an educator at St. Mary’s University College and a leadership consultant and facilitator to numerous individuals, organizations and conferences.

Christine was passionate about creating communities of peace by motivating, engaging and empowering youth. She won numerous awards for her initiatives:
• Breakfast Television & Lite 95.9, Golden Apple Award, November 2012
• Character Education Partnership (CEP) Promising Practice Award, 2012 for Playground Peace Patrols and Everyone Belongs, Empowering Students—Safe and Caring Schools
• Emmaus Award, Newman Theological College, 2011 for her Masters project, “A Teachers’ Guide for presenting Social Justice Concepts in Catholic Schools”
• Community of Caring Leadership Award, CCSD Board of Trustees Excellence Certificate, 2007
• Community of Caring National Award, “Outstanding Elementary Site Facilitator,” 2006
• CCSD Board of Trustees Excellence Certificate for YMCA Peace Medals Award, 2005
• Peace Medals Community Involvement Initiative, Calgary YMCA, 2005

Christine was a devout Roman Catholic attending St. Boniface German Church, and also a practising Buddhist at Jam tse Choling Tibetan Buddhist Temple. Every day, Christine truly lived the precepts of her Catholic faith and Buddhist dharma. Her kind and loving compassion radiated from her just as did her wide, beautiful smile. Christine loved deeply with an open heart, she laughed easily and she trusted many, forgiving even those who may have betrayed her trust.

Christine’s children, Alex and Kathryn, were her greatest joy; she lived every day dedicated to their well-being and happiness. She was a loving, caring daughter, brightening her father’s life every day with a phone call or visit. The youngest among her siblings, she was the little sister who arrived late and as an unexpected joy to the family. She was a true friend to her siblings and took so much joy in her many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Christine was taken from us suddenly and without warning. Although we are devastated at losing this beautiful, vital woman, we are comforted by her deep beliefs that she lives beyond this earthly realm and her loving compassion continues to shine.

Christine, we will always carry you in our hearts.

Prayers will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church (1923 Broadview Rd NW, Calgary) on Thursday, Aug 24th at 7 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, August 25, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Boniface. After the Mass, a Buddhist prayer service will be offered by Ven. Geshe Trinly Gyatso of Jam Tse Choling Tibetan Buddhist Temple. Following the service, family and friends are invited to join us for a reception at the Austrian Canadian Club (3112 - 11 St. NE Calgary).
