KIRTHI “KEITH” MAITRIPALA
1943 - 2017

Kirthi “Keith” Maitripala passed away on August 21, 2017 in hospital surrounded by his loved ones following a courageous battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). He was cremated privately in the days following his passing.

A celebration of Kirthi’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on August 26, 2017 at Saint Mark’s Catholic Church.

Kirthi was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka on March 14, 1943 and moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1973, where he went on to marry Augusta Fernando on June 28, 1975.

Kirthi is survived by his two children, Rochelle Andria and Ryan Michael, and his wife Augusta. He was also blessed with many nieces and nephews across Canada and abroad.

A lifelong athlete, Kirthi was an avid cricketer in his early years, playing in leagues in both Sri Lanka and Canada. He later took up the game of golf, also working as a Players’ Assistant at the Hampton’s Golf Club following his retirement from Norampac after many years.

His love for life and learning was evident through his passion for world travel, where he travelled extensively visiting numerous countries up until the very advanced stages of his illness.

Kirthi was known as a generous and compassionate individual always in the company of friends. He was a passionate cook and loved spending time and sharing food with those close to him.
