The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Melanie Haugen can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

This is the ‘thank you’ I wished I had said to you, ‘face-to-face’. Thank you for being ‘there’ for me during my darkest times, my most joyful times and all of the time we spent together, in between. Thank you for ‘having my back’ all those years that we worked together, right up to, and including my retirement party, when you made sure that everything was just the way I would like it – without even having to ask me. You just knew. Thank you for listening to me, I mean, REALLY listening to me and giving me advice when I needed it. Thank you for the good times in New Orleans, my birthday weekend in B.C. and our big trip to Portugal – what an adventure that was! I thought I lost you that first day – you crazy kid! Thank you for what we thought was just another ordinary day, shopping at Winners, going for sushi or watching ‘chick flicks', sharing red licorice and a bag of popcorn – no butter. You have no idea how much I wanted the butter! Thank you for supporting me, every step of the way, when I battled cancer; your encouraging words, our walks,(even though you had to slow down for me), and doing whatever you could think of, to make my recovery so much better. You didn’t waiver from your positive assurance that I WOULD beat it! Most of all, thank you for being you, Mel. My dependable, loyal friend that knew me better than I know myself. The person that could always make me laugh, sometimes at myself. A true friend that I could confidently share my thoughts, hopes and dreams - and not be judged. Even though my best friend can no longer spend another ordinary day or moment with me, I will always treasure the memories I have of you. Finally, thank you for saying good-bye to me. The greatest gift you could have given me! Love you, Mel!
