Obituary for Maximilian Gschaider

Maximilian Gschaider
Gschaider, Maximilian "Max"
October 13, 1928 – August 6, 2017

With his loving family by his side, Max Gschaider passed away peacefully at Providence Care Centre on August 6, 2017 at the age of 88.

Max is survived by his 6 children Rita (Bruce) Wright, Louise (Wade) Hicks, Colleen Witt, Shelley (Dan) Glatt, Sherry Kratchmer and David Gschaider; his 9 grandchildren Amanda Poer, Miranda Witt, Jasmine Witt, Keifer Hicks, Jamie Gschaider, Joshua Witt, Rachel Glatt, Keisha Wright and Nathan Glatt; and 3 great grandchildren, twin boys Ashton and Jason, and great granddaughter Summer Gschaider-Prince; and his brother Victor (Eda). He was predeceased by his beloved wife Kathie in 2016.

Max was born in Austria and came to Canada in 1956, where he taught himself English and worked as a welder. In the early years, he worked with Standard General in Alberta and British Columbia. He then settled in Calgary and worked for Western Rock Bit for thirty years. Max had three children Rita, Louise and David from his first marriage to Verna. Max then married Kathie in 1988 and gained three more children, Colleen, Sherry and Shelley. Max loved skiing, swimming and playing the accordion. Max took pride in his house and loved to entertain there with Kathie and his extended family. In retirement, Max enjoyed coffee with his buddies every morning and spending time wood working in his garage.

A Celebration of Max’s life will be held upstairs at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles (9303-5th Street SE) on Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm. In lieu of sending flowers, say an extra prayer for him when he comes into your thoughts. Donations in memory of Max may be made to Father Lacombe Care Foundation (www.flccfoundation.ca) for the Healing Gardens in the Applewood Unit at Providence Care Centre.
