Obituary for Laura-Lynn Richard

Laura-Lynn Richard
LAURA-LYNN RICHARD (nee AINSLIE)
August 28, 1972 - 22 June 2017

The family is deeply saddened to announce that after a courageous battle with cancer, Laura-Lynn passed away at her home in Calgary, AB. She has gone to heaven to be with her Dad and we know that she will continue to guide and watch over us in everything we do. She was born and raised in Winnipeg and attended Oak Park High School where she fell in love with her future husband Stephen Richard. They both attended the University of Manitoba where she graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree in 1994. They were married July 22, 1995 in Winnipeg and moved to Calgary. She was an extremely well-respected and accomplished teacher and had such a positive impact on her students and colleagues. She had a passion for her career and became an Assistant Principal at Christ the King School in 2013 and Vice-Principal at St. Albert the Great School in 2015. She finished her Masters of Education degree from Gonzaga University in the fall of 2016.

She was a loving mother, a caring wife, a thoughtful daughter and a wonderful sister. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She especially enjoyed her time swimming and boating at Lake Koocanusa on the B.C. and Montana border. We were so blessed to have been able to spend the time we had with Laura-Lynn. Our time with her was short but we will forever cherish the memories we made. She will always be in our hearts and with us in everything we do.

She is survived by her loving husband Stephen, daughter Melissa, age 17, sons Matthew age 15 and Brendan age 11; mother Elaine Ainslie, sisters Shannon Labrash (husband Lon, children Tanis, Megan and Daniel) of Montreal; Jennifer St. Laurent (husband Mark, children Ashley and Carley) of Winnipeg; Stephen’s parents Louis and Jean Richard of Thunder Bay; brother-in-law Kevin Richard (wife Bernadette, children Danielle and Jessica) of Winnipeg and numerous friends and family members. She was predeceased by her loving father Robert Ainslie in September 2016. She will be loved and cherished always by her family.

Laura-Lynn was able to spend her final days in the comfort of her own home surrounded by the people she loved. We want to thank the dedicated palliative care team that supported her and her family in her final weeks. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Albert the Great Parish (10 Prestwick Drive SE) on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow. We will always love and remember our beautiful Laura-Lynn. To honour her, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
