Edmund was predeceased by his daughter Karen Wendlandt in 2012. Also, left to mourn is Edmund’s brothers and sisters; Erna Redschlag, Helma (Kurt) Klumbies, Eric (Betty) Adam, Arnie (Bev) Adam, Warner (Linda) Adam; his sister-in-law Yvonne Adam. He is also remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Edmund was predeceased by his parents Edward and Ida Adam, his sister Martha (Ewald) Streu, his brother Ray Adam, and his brother-in-law Albert Redschlag, who passed away just 2 days before Edmund. Edmund was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law Leonard (Olga) Schulz, his brother and sister-in-law Erich (Lillian) Schulz.

Edmund worked for over 50 years in the Commercial Construction Industry, working on large projects all over western Canada. Two weeks before his passing he shared with Debbie how grateful he was to Ed Sardachuk for employing him and teaching him about Commercial Construction. He expressed his gratefulness towards Jake Serr and Rob Serr as well. He worked for these gentlemen throughout his whole career, and lastly being employed by Rob, finally retired at the young age of 81. Edmund was a relatively “uneducated” man in the eyes of the world, but God blessed him with so many talents and gifts. Edmund immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1953,with a suitcase in hand, and put his “building” talents to work. After several years, he learned to read architectural plans, and become a Site Superintendent, overseeing hundreds of tradesmen without the help of a computer, and often completed the projects ahead of schedule. Despite working very long hours at his job, Edmund always built his family new homes to enjoy, working on the many stages of construction on his own, late into the night. Dad loved to take us to the construction site to show us around. Interestingly, all his children ended up in the Construction Industry in some facet. Dad taught his son well in “very meticulous” construction, and I (Debbie) am so grateful to live in the home that my Dad last constructed working beside his son, Ernie. Everywhere I look, I see Dad’s hard work and labor of love.

Edmund and the family loved Radium Hot Springs, ever since he and Johanna married in 1955. Our Dad always made the time to take us camping to Radium Hot Springs, take us on hundreds of day trips to Banff to soak in the hot pool, and always treat us to wonderful meals eating out as a family (it was never “fast food”). He enjoyed having family and friends in for dinners, always telling them “eat more, eat more, you hardly ate enough, here let me give you more”. He absolutely loved Mom’s exceptional cooking and baking of German food.

He suffered a mild heart attack in 1992, but thankfully never needed any surgery. He continued to work as hard as he always did in very good health. In November 2015, Edmund was diagnosed with Severe Congestive Heart Failure. From November 2015 to August 2016, Edmund was able to enjoy a very good quality of life despite his very weak heart. He suffered another mild heart attack in August 2016, which almost took his life. The Lord was gracious in restoring our Dad’s health once again. However, in May 2017, Dad had trouble breathing and was hospitalized. Despite, Dad improving so much, the Lord in His divine care over our lives, decided to peacefully take our Dad Home to his Heavenly Home in the early morning of June 4th.
Edmund was a soft-hearted man, generous, humble, always willing to help others, and loved to tease and make others laugh. He was so meticulous in everything he did; whether building something, he could fix almost anything that broke, he kept the yard manicured, kept his cars washed and polished, and shined his shoes each week. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. We are thankful that Edmund accepted the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ and is now in the presence of the Heavenly Father who sustained him all the days of his life. We look forward to our Heavenly Reunion one day, for we mourn not as those who have no hope. At Edmund’s request, a private Celebration of his life will be held by his immediate family.
