Obituary for Donna Carole Hieb (Williams)

Donna Carole Hieb (Williams)
Donna Carol (Williams) Hieb, 71
December 7, 1945 - May 9, 2017

Donna Carol (Williams) Hieb, age 71, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Tuesday (May 9, 2017) at Foothills Medical Center after a courageous but incredibly quick battle with cancer. She was the beloved mother of Dori Hieb (Calgary, AB) and Frances Heydeman (Saint John, NB.)

Donna was born in Fort Frances, Ontario on December 7, 1945 and grew up in Rainy River District, Ontario. She was the daughter of the late Clifford and Frances (“Bubs” Allan) Williams.

Donna ran her own successful upholstery business in Kenora, Ontario for many years and shared a very special life with the late John Jagoe. Both Donna and John loved travelling the open roads, camping, boating, fishing and enjoying the company of their many friends. Following John’s passing, Donna moved to Calgary where she and daughter Dori continued their love of adventure and spent many miles exploring the western provinces and states as well as two wonderful visits to Europe. Donna’s greatest loves were simple – nothing brought her more joy than spending time with family, sitting around a bonfire having a “weenie roast” or hopping in her car for the proverbial “car ride” which could last one hour or 3 days. The simple joy of exploring was something she lived for. Her other loves of quilting, crafting, reading books or telling silly jokes that made others groan are memories that we will always cherish. Donna was without a doubt an incredible woman who shared her love of life and kindness with every single person whose life had the good fortune to touch hers. She gave of herself openly and freely with no hesitation and when she smiled, the twinkle in her eyes stayed with you always.

Besides her two daughters, Dori and Frances, Donna leaves her beloved grandson Zachary Heydeman of Moncton, NB, adored granddaughter Amber Smith along with grandson in-law Joe and wonderful great grandson Sawyer of Ottawa, ON. Donna also leaves behind her brother Butch, sister Beatrice, as well as cherished friends Aunts Carol and Bea, Zarina, Gail, Liz, Debbie, Deloris, Crystal, Troy and many, many others too numerous to list but of whom Donna always spoke of with love and affection.

As an added note, Donna’s family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Unit 36, Foothills Medical Centre for their tremendous kindness, care and above and beyond efforts to maintain the dignity and comfort of Donna while a patient with them.

At Donna’s request, the funeral and burial will be a private event for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society.
