Obituary for Hendrik de Groot

de Groot, Hendrik (Henk)
September 1, 1933 Hengelo, Netherlands – March 28, 2017 Calgary, Alberta

Henk immigrated alone to Canada in 1952 at 19, finally working his way west to a permanent home in Calgary. Henk was on vacation and brought his future wife, Everdine, from Holland to Canada in 1960. They married and in the following years welcomed four daughters.

His family grew when two of his girls, and their respective partners, expanded his family with three grandsons. For many years he was a talented, successful automotive repair business owner and lifelong car enthusiast. He was known for his strong handshake, personality, opinions, and was quite a character. He always paved his own way and was never afraid of hard work, good jokes, or a wild scheme. He was adventurous, dynamic, focused, loving, and responsible. He would always lend a hand when asked and most of his life was spent laughing and enjoying his life. He will be missed tremendously and he knew he was very much loved and appreciated.

At his request there will be no service.

In lieu of flowers donations to Bethany Care Foundation - Level 8 – MDE Unit (Jennifer Harbour, Senior Development Officer 403-210-4611) will be gratefully appreciated.
