Istvanffy, Stephen MacMillan

Stephen MacMillan Istvanffy died peacefully surrounded by family. Stephen is survived by his wife Jacqueline (nee MacKay); his five sons: Ian (Dallas), Stewart, Robert (Claudia), Allen (Marie-Jill), and James (Toni); his eight grand children: Stephanie (Matthew), Dylan (Kiersten), John, Anna, Benjamin, Mary, Jeanne, and Jack; his three great grandchildren: Alexander, Clara and Rose; and by his sister Margaret Coates of Vernon BC. Stephen will be greatly missed by all his extended family.

Stephen was born to Lionel and Sarah (nee MacMillan) Istvanffy. He grew up on a farm in Irricana with his siblings Dan, Thyrza, Margaret and Katherine. Stephen volunteered to fight in the second world war as soon as he as eligible to do so. He participated in the liberation of Holland and was welcomed back as a hero to various VE celebrations.

Stephen graduated from the University of Alberta as a chemical engineer, and spent his career working for CIL. His work centered on the development of polyester fiber, explosive welding and the creation of safety air bags.

Stephen adored his wife, Jacqueline of 65 years. He and Jacqueline met on the tennis court during their university days. They married on May 24, 1950. Stephen and Jacqueline raised their family in the cities of Kingston and Montreal, finally returning to Calgary in the early 1980`s.

Stephen made great effort to connect with all of his relatives and was always eager to share stories of the family history. He also made many friends worldwide during his many travels, including 25 years traveling to Mazatlan, Mexico.

A celebration of Stephen`s life will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 2:00 PM at 6868 Sierra Morena Boulevard SW Calgary.
