My Aunty Sharon

Aunty Sharon and I  share the same birthdate, August 26.  There is only 13 years seperating us, me being the juniour.

My mother's name is Sharon as well so it was confussing at times who was who and for whom do you ask when the name Sharon Hagen came up.  It was always with  a giggle and a  laugh my Aunty Sharon would answer "Oh its for ME !"

My Aunty Sharon was so loving and patient with me.  My story begins with the best of my recollection.

When I was struggling in grade three on the subject of GRAMMAR , my aunty Sharon was asked by her  brother,my Dad ,to come over to our house every evening for a week to help me learn grammar and reading.  After her patient instruction time about an hour after supper, we would go outside for a walk and she would ask me questions about my lessons and if I remembered what I read.

I had cried in frustration at times and may have thrown a tantrum but sentences and they're puncution were starting to come together. I was not doing well.

I remember my dad asking aunty Sharon how I was doing and she was honest to her soul, "he's not to good but he is improving."  When I saw my dad give her a couple of dimes for her efforts , I wanted some dimes too... because I was learning!!

Aunty Sharon was approached some time later to teach me mathematics.  With remembering numbers it came easier to grasp and I learnt multiplication and division techniques before they were even presented in school class.  I was slightly a head of my time and became very proud of my Aunty for taking the time to teach me again.  I loved her very much for her care and time with me.

I excelled in math and sciences , physics and alegebra but my darn reading skills still needed work.

I am proud to say that Aunty Sharon gave me the courage and facts at a young age to learn and achieve what I set out to do for a career.  I went to university to become and engineer. My math abilities shone but my attendance to go to class fell behind when I became very sick for 2 weeks. I had to leave university and seek a career.

I became a telephone lineman technician and had a very succeful 37 years career.

Thank you so very much Aunty Sharon and also to my Mom  for pushing me and teaching me with patience and care,  that I could learn and earn many dimes.

I will always remember you as my tutor and friend who wanted me to succeed.

God Bless You and my you be guided into one of God's Houses with many rooms for you to teach other poor souls lacking in skills and courage to " TRY it Again".

I will think of you often and especially on "OUR BIRTHDAY" We share together.
