The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Phyllis Smith can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

This Is Nana

I have many memories of my Nana, but this one stands out the most because it was told by her in such fondness. I spent my first years with my Nana because my Mom (Debbie) had a full time job, and my Dad (Doug) was attending school during the weekdays.  My Nana had a routine everyday, which often involved taking me to Market Mall to stroll around and go to the food court for " Coffee and a Bun"

One one such occasion, a lady friend of my Nanas noticed us sitting in the food court, approached us and began a conversation with my Nana about the in's and out's of the day.  I was a fairly serious young child, and not easily ammused.  When thier conversation was over and the lady was ready to carry on with her shopping, to be nice she turned to me, bent down to my level and said: " Well!!  Isnt this nice nice your Grandma took you for coffee and a bun?"  Without even looking up at the nice lady I replied in a surly manner- " This is NANA,  GRANDMA lives in Winnipeg"

I think my Nana knew how i was and how i could get from day one, but also felt grateful she was close enough in distance and in love to be a part of my life and grow a bond with me that would live on until the day she died. All of  her Girls were her life- and no matter all of  our vast differences, and our life paths we chose or found ourselves on-  Nana was proud of each of Us with her whole heart.

I know all of Us will remain forever Grateful.

I look forward to coming up to Calgary next month to share stories, pictures, and memories of Nana in person....  and especially to share LOVE.

XO
